Fire
Iron, when heated glowing yellow hot, becomes as malleable as clay. It is in this near molten state that beauty is given an opportunity to emerge.

“When I'm working on a problem, I never think about beauty. I think only how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong”
   – R. Buckminster Fuller (1895 - 1983)

In the studio, metals are heated in gas or coal forges to temperatures often exceeding 2000 degrees, then hammered, twisted, bent, pulled, nudged and otherwise forcefully persuaded to become elegant flowing forms.
